Abandoned on a Sidewalk (Romania)

“Lacra was born on March 14, 2000 as a result of one of her mother’s relationships. Two children were born to her, Ioan who is with his father, and Lacra who is now in the care of the Sanctuary Orphanage.

When Lacra was born, her mother left her in the care of her birth father. She left town and moved in with her new boyfriend. Things were difficult for Lacra. Her father, who lived in a one-room filthy apartment, claimed that he could not take care of her because he was already taking care of one child. He actually said that his baby girl is not welcome under the same roof with her older brother.

One day her father took Lacra and went looking for her birth mother. He was so convinced that it is not his responsibility to take care of Lacra if her mother didn’t want her. He found Lacra’s mother living in a one-room apartment with her new boyfriend and five other persons. Her mother didn’t even want to think about sheltering the little girl. The mother’s acts were so cold and without any kind of maternal feelings; she refused to take Lacra back, so her father returned home with Lacra.

In a very heartless way her father decided to leave Lacra on a sidewalk close to the Mayor’s office so someone would notice a lost child. When the people from the Mayor’s office noticed a child all alone, they contacted the Child Protection Agency. Soon after, Lacra’s mother received notice that Lacra was in the possession of the state and that she needs to take her home. She refused again to take Lacra home. She asked for the child to be sent to an orphanage, because she did not need her and she didn’t have the time to take care of her.

She was then placed in the care of the Sanctuary Orphanage where she still is today. Like the Bible says "though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me" (Psalm 27:10). We know that God has such great plans for this little one. He has enough places in His kingdom for her — much more than her mother and father had for her.

God created Lacra in such a special way, easy to be loved, clever and brave. What else can a parent ask for? How much more did she need to change to be accepted by her parents? These things we will not be able to understand so easily, but we know that all things work together for good of those who love the Lord.

Our dedicated Christian staff takes good care of her. She is developing well both physically and mentally. Lacra can be characterized as a strong-willed and very brave child. She is quick to learn new things. She has also developed a nice speech and knows a lot of words. You can see from the pictures that she is a lovely girl and easy to be loved.”
